1 Week Until You Can Read My Holiday Romance Novel
The good, the bad, and the ugly of getting WHEN IN DECEMBER to publication.
This is the part where I ask, “Have you preordered yet?”
But, I am not going to do that. Or, at least, I am not going to do that yet.
You’ll have to hang on for that part and first listen to all the excitement and fear and frustrations happening in the week leading up to my eighth (yes, you heard that right. EIGHTH.) book release.
Now that we are only a week away, I always think that I don’t have as much to say beyond gosh, I really hope there are a few people out there who read When in December and absolutely love it. Maybe, as a writer, that’s all we can really hope for alongside the other bad reviews that are bound to happen (they always do).
In the week leading up to a book release there’s one emotion that outranks all the others; good, bad and otherwise. Hope.
There’s only that feeling deep down that you hope, even if things haven’t been going completely smoothly leading up to a release or through the entire writing process for a book as a whole, that this could be it. This could be the book that changes everything.
Which is a lot of pressure.
It’s also a lot of hope for a release day that ultimately, usually ends up being very anti-climatic as an indie, self-publishing, author who doesn’t have a big launch party or celebrates much at all beyond a release day post on social media, continuing to beg readers to read.
I mean, I could say that I’ve put up with a lot to get this book out to you all on time. The least you could do is pick up my silly little holiday romance novel and read it, right? ;)
All the Wonderful Things that Happened for When in December So Far…
I got to release the cover just in time for Romance Con! Some of you really loved it, and I was thrilled since it is in my first “people” cover. And I really like it too.
I conquered Ingram Spark at last so hopefully bookstores will purchase my books and put them in stores!
I finished writing When in December on time, on deadline to get to editor in the midst of a move and big life changes.
All the Frustrating Things that Happened for When in December So Far…
It took me FOREVER to write this book baby. Since Call You Mine, we could say there was in a bit of writing rut I’m still working to get out of. But here it is! A romance! Happy reading!
The cover took over 5 months to figure out and then create which was so stressful, but isn’t she pretty now?
ARCs went out a week late due to longer than expected processing times. I also have to say, When in December was oddly my least requested book for advanced readers copies to review so far. Maybe it was the holiday theme? Maybe it was the “people” cover? One wonders, but we will never know.
I had to conquer Ingram Spark at last so hopefully bookstores will purchase my books and put them in stores! And the upload time and then some more cover issues with uploading everything took so much longer than expected. I may or may not still be waiting to get my first copy in the mail in hopes that it comes perfectly formatted with no issues.
The cover… did not look good printed in matte. Which. Was. Horrifying. If you know, all my books have matte covers because I love the feel of matte covers and they always take better photos in general because they don’t reflect light. But When in December was just meant to be a glossy gal. This required a proof reprint, and then another proof reprint when that came a little wonky which required so much more time than expected! (Seeing a theme here? Sometimes self-publishing is hard when you have to do it all on your own.)
Okay, you made it to the end. So now, I have to ask:
Have you pre-ordered WHEN IN DECEMBER yet?
You can pre-order today a Kindle copy or a signed paperback from my online shop through Beventi! Just pretty please be patient as I wait for my copies to come in. If something goes right for this release, I’m also hoping it will be quick and simple shipping times.
Are you laughing right now as I said that?
Yeah, me too.
I just preordered. The description sounds so cute 🥰
I’m so excited for this! But would also love to know how you stayed consistent with writing in the midst of big life changes, cause I’m going through it atm😂
