Happy New Year, romance readers and book lovers in general!
As we dive into 2025, it's the perfect time to set some bookish resolutions.
As the new year came around, my friend actually wished me a happy new year with a more bookish resolution of her own which kind of inspired this post.
Her goal: ditch more books that she doesn’t love.
A pretty good goal, especially when there are so many books to fall in love with, you never have to stick with something that isn’t speaking to you in the moment. Because, as many of you know, I am a firm believer that some of the best books are the ones that hit you at just the right time.
I always love a good resolution (even though to be honest, they also make me a bit anxious when I don’t complete them when I already have so many publishing goals).
Whether you're looking to discover new authors, read outside your usual sub-genres, or finally dive into your towering TBR pile, let’s make this year our most romance-filled reading adventure yet!
Here are some ideas for your Book Resolutions:
Read a New Subgenre: Challenge yourself to explore a new genre or if you are a romance reader, subgenre of romance, that you haven't delved into before. Whether it's historical, paranormal, or contemporary, broaden your horizons and discover fresh new worlds and characters facing new challenges of their own!
Support Indie Authors: Like me! And like so many other amazing romance authors. Make a conscious effort to read and support indie romance authors. Their unique voices often bring fresh takes and exciting narratives to the genre and plus, they have some AMAZING stories to share.
Complete a Reading Challenge: Find or create a romance or genre-themed reading challenge for the year, such as reading a book with a specific trope, setting, or time period. This can help you try new things and stay excited about your reading goals all throughout the year.
Start a Book Journal: Document your thoughts on every romance novel you read. Record your favorite quotes, themes, and characters, and track your evolving tastes over time. I’ve seen some amazing illustrated ones as well as just keeping a list of what you’ve read and loved to look back on at the end of 2025.
Join a Book Club: Find or start a book club (if you find a romance book club, even more amazing!) whether online or in person. Discussing books with others can deepen your understanding of the stories and connect you with like-minded readers. It’s what makes being a reader so much fun!
Read More Diverse Romance: Make an effort to read romance novels from diverse voices that you may not have before or would like to include more in your everyday reading choices. Include different cultural backgrounds, perspectives, and authors from around the world.
Revisit Old Favorites: Re-read some of your all-time favorite romance novels. Rediscover the joy of falling in love with the same characters and stories all over again.
Expand Your TBR Pile: Create a “to be read” list that includes romance books you've been meaning to get to but haven’t yet. This will give you a roadmap for the year and ensure you always have a new book to dive into.
Explore Romance Adaptations: Watch a romance novel adaptation, whether it's a movie, TV show, or audiobook, and compare it with the source material. It's a great way to experience your favorite stories in a new format.
Write Your Own Romance: If you've ever considered writing your own romance novel, or novel in general, 2025 could be the year to start. Lots of people have novel writing aspirations, but it could be your sign to put pen to Set aside some time each month to write your ideas down, and who knows? You may end up creating your own love story!
