Summer is here. It’s almost mid way at this point and I think I saw a commercial the other morning talking about picking up school supplies which… yeah.
This time of year always reminds me a lot of the good summers. The ones where I went on adventures or took chances. The summers were I’ve written TONS of words and crafted stories that changed everything for better or for worse. The summers where I explored new cities and won life and felt also like I was failing terribly at it all.
And there is an odd, nostalgic magic in it that I think about a lot.
Because I guess, it’s a good thing, to be nostalgic. To, even in the low moments at time, look back and think.
Wow, that was nice. Wasn’t it?
What I’m Reading
My reading list has also been doubled just by the wonderful articles here on Substack that I also think that you should read and tell me what you thought of them!
On the book front, I have finished reading Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry which has been ranked as number two in my “I love all Emily Henry books list.”
People We Meet on Vacation just holds the special spot in my heart as number one. I loved how deep we got into characters in this story and I can’t to see where Emily Henry goes next in storytelling.
Next up, I am reading Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by VE Schwab and I am really loving it so far. I feel like I am stepping back into one of my favorite stories, Addie LaRue, in a way and am so excited to spend some time really enjoying this one.
I’m going in vaguely blind to Bury Our Bones but I think their vampires which means I’m already in love.
I just picked up Sounds Like Love by Ashley Poston as well! So… a most looked forward to book shall be read soon.
On Writing
I’m writing. I’m working on a new book. A very different book from the past books I’ve written and published.
Yep. Pretty cool, right?
I guess that is what happens when you aren’t doing much else and sending out a million applications to jobs that never contact you back. You have to try to put all your eggs back in one basket and do the thing you really want the most.
I’ve started a in depth Writing Diary series for my paid subscribers as well. Kind of like a more often updated diary of how I am doing with my new project. You can check out Writing Diary number one here!
Happy List
Rewatching The Witcher with Mystery Man. And diving deeper into fantasy stories.
Rearranging my office space.
Iced chai lattes.
The cookie dough coffee creamer from Chobani.
Summer pajamas.
Getting back into social media in a more… intentional way? I’ve been posting a lot over on Instagram and trying to get back into marketing my books a lot more so hopefully I can find my illusive readers before my 4th publishing anniversary comes up soon.
Tell me now, what are you reading and enjoying. I can’t wait to chat more about it in the comments.
Until next week, let me know how yours has been!
