The other day I made it to the final chapter of When in December draft… five, I believe?
No matter how many books I write, it never ceases to amaze me just how anticlimactic it is to finish a book.
Maybe it's because I don't write the very dramatic “The End” at the end. Or maybe it's because by the time I finish a draft, I so desperately want to be done that I just say, “There!” and slam the computer shut. There is no champagne popping or cheering happening behind me as I sit at my desk. There is only me saying, this is good enough. It’s kind of like when you were in school and needed to write an essay quickly, just so you had something to turn in, so you called it a day.
But here's to say I finally finished an entire draft of When in December. It's finished. It's complete. There are no gaps in it. Yet, there's so much I still want to change since of course, I don’t want this story to be just “good enough.”
Or maybe that's incorrect. There isn't a lot I want to change, but there are some things I see lacking now that I finished the story and reached the final home stretch. There are tiny details I want to add. Sentences I want to tighten and create a better flow. So, here comes my usual favorite part of the writing process. Revisions.
When I say that, now I feel like there should be a row of cheering behind me.
Only this time, revisions are going to be a little different. This time, instead of holding myself up in my room and getting to work on revisions, which usually takes me about a week I take my time. This time, I have a lot going on while also revising. I am going to be sneaking in revision moments, reading books that inspire me to make my book better, and getting this story done in all the tiny moments I have to do it before I can’t touch it anymore.
It wasn't exactly my intention, but we're going with the flow of life and major events I’m excited and also nervous for (in the best way). I can only hope that I still get the same amount done because the deadline is still looming. The editor is still going to want the book and I need to finish it.
So let’s get revising and editing. Let’s get writing this book. Again.
In other news…
The cover for When in December is finally because finally being started which I am super excited about. It's in very capable hands and it is going to have a different style than my previous covers, so be prepared for a special cover reveal within the next month.
Be prepared for a lot within the next month because I want to make sure that I am promoting When in December appropriately so it reaches its readers and audience as best it can. Having a holiday-esque romance after all is super fun because you get to celebrate the holiday and the season even more. But it's also a double-edged sword. Having a wintery romance is a little stressful because when you have a holiday romance the best time to read it is, as you can imagine, during the holiday. Though When in December is a great love story I believe can be read all year long, in the marketing world that just isn't the case. In the reading world when it comes to lists and TBR’s that is also not the case.
But again, we are rolling with the romance book punches.
Here's just a little update and I hope you guys are having a wonderful early start to the weekend.
Happy summer! Happy reading!

I so feel this! I always feel stuck between "I need this to be done omg it's good enough" and "but it can be SO much better! And now I miss spending time with these characters!"
I don't know what the balance is. But congrats on another finished draft!!
