I truly believe that there is a sort of curse upon writers on deadline, that when you take a day off specifically out of the plan that you will write and get a lot of work done, the words suddenly disappear.
Poof!
It’s like the day you decided to take off to write, your brain decided to take a mini vacation as well and the only thing left inside is that stupid— yet terribly catchy— song you keep hearing on the radio or that laundry you said you’d do yesterday but never did. At least, this has been a common occurrence for me throughout the past year or so as I struggle through a writing… rut? complication? issue?
This week, that is more true than ever lately considering I have been putting off writing until I made time while going to see LDR.*
Because, big tip, when you are in a LDR, it is always good to have projects, hobbies, or plans to complete when you are left alone, living your lives simultaneously with work and classes while also being thrilled to just be around the other. I’ve seen some people decide that this is a great time to break open a book they wanted to read, take up needlepoint, or try out a new recipe if they have enough confidence in the kitchen and the ability to get to a grocery store.
But me? I’m writing.
I need to write.
How many words, you ask? Well, about 10k. If at all possible, writing muses?
With this in mind over the next few days, I figured that I’ll attempt to get a ton done. A little day dreaming will happen on the plane once I put down Funny Story by Emily Henry that I picked up just for the occasion (perhaps not my best choice if I didn’t want to be distracted from writing, but I refuse to wait any longer). Some relaxing will happen as I breathe a sigh of relief when I arrive at my destination. Then, when the day time hours come back around? Writing When in December.
I’ll keep you updated on how it is going as I work through the “middle part” of this holiday reno romance that definitely feels like after about five drafts, it’s gone under a renovation of its own.
Wish me luck.
